Tinkerbell and Friends

When my daughter turned three she and I made a Tinkerbell cake together which consisted of very pink icing and a lot of love (and mess).  A few weeks ago I was asked to make a three tier cake to host Tinkerbell and friends figurines amidst some flowers.

The top tier is chocolate, the middle tier is vanilla, and the bottom is carrot with creamcheese filling.  The cake is iced in buttercream, but all flowers and blades of grass are made in fondant and gumpaste.  I have made a gumpaste Tinkerbell in the past, but the customer had these figurines in mind when she ordered the cake.  We were able to insert them into the cake to look as if they are flying.

Briefcase Cake

I got my airbrush equipment out again this weekend for this black briefcase.  It was a 40th birthday cake for an irish businessman.  The briefcase is vanilla cake with buttercream filling, and the pool ball, computer mouse and cigar were made of rice krispy treats (RKT) covered in fondant.  The briefcase has been airbrushed black, and decorated with gumpaste handle, locks, screws, and feet (not shown).  The silver was hand painted on the locks.  There is a birthday card on the top made of gumpaste, and the clover are made of fondant.  The cake fed 50.

Wedding Gift Cake

December seemed to be a busy month for weddings, and this cake portrayed the gift giving season.  The bride's colours were sage green and mocha, hence the colours on the cake.  The top tier was vanilla with buttercream, and the bottom tier was carrot with cream cheese filling.  The looped bows and tag were made of gumpaste, and the green "wrapping" and ribbons were marshmallow fondant.  The cakes were baked in square pans and then carved into the octagonal shape.

Wedding and Baptisms

After the craft sale at the Christian School, the phone started ringing for baptism and Profession of Faith cakes.  The first cake was for the baptism of two young boys, and needed to be assembled on site, so this picture of Eeyore as an angel is just a part of the cake.  He is made of fondant and his wings are gumpaste.  His halo is made of floral wire.

The above Cross Cake was for a married couple on the occasion of their Profession of Faith in church, and her baptism. Inside was vanilla cake.  The baptism cake below was for a newborn's baptism.  The cake was vanilla with lemon curd, and the sheep and stones were made of fondant.

Wedding Cookies:
This past Saturday, I had an order for 100 bride and groom cookies as wedding favours.  They were a butter cookie iced in royal icing.  I have made these cookies with different coloured dresses or hair, depending on the customer's request.

Very Canadian Cakes

I have made several hockey rink cakes as hockey is HUGE here in Stirling, and Canada, for that matter.  For this cake, however the client asked for a Montreal Canadiens hockey player.  He is made of a mixture of gumpaste and fondant, as are the nets.

Earlier that week the "Beavers" in town held a fundraiser and asked me to donate a cake.  So as a tribute to the long-standing club, and to one of our special Canadian animals - here he is!  He was big enough to feed 45-50 people and was three layers of chocolate cake.

I used buttercream icing in order to give him a furry effect, but his eyes, ears, nose and tail are all made of fondant.
While I was making him, I couldn't help but think of the buffalo I made almost exactly a year ago.  You can see it on my official website www.cakesbyerin.ca
